We're releasing Quicken for Mac 2015 v2.9 today. Please post any issues with version 2.9 in this forum post. This release has a lot of new stuff and will require that you convert to a Quicken ID to continue downloading transactions. Here are the release notes.
Version 2.9.0 (Critical Free Upgrade) To prevent service interruption, update now. As part of Quicken's separation from Intuit, we will be migrating a number of services from Intuit to the secure, Quicken Cloud. If you are not on the latest Quicken version by September 30th, you will lose the ability to. Create a new file. Make changes to your account.
Download transactions. Use the mobile app. This is a free update Version 2.9 has a number of feature and stability improvements. NEW: The biggest change is the move to the new Quicken ID and Quicken cloud. After launching Quicken, you will be asked to create a new Quicken ID. You should be able to use the same email address and password that you used for your Intuit ID.
NEW: Quicken Connect transactions will now be delivered via the Quicken Cloud. Quicken will set up your accounts so your transactions continue to download without having to re-enter your banking credentials. This only affects Quicken Connect accounts. NEW: As part of this change, Quicken Connect accounts will now download transactions in the background meaning you can continue to use Quicken. Direct Connect accounts including all investment accounts do not currently download in the background. NEW: Moved stock quote updates to download in the background.
NEW: Added support for multiple Cloud accounts using the same Quicken ID. This means you don't need different IDs for each file. NEW: There's a new mobile app. You will need a new Quicken mobile app to continue seeing your data. Go to the app store associated with your mobile device to get the latest Quicken mobile app. In addition to Quicken Cloud features, we also made improvements throughout the product. A brand new Reconcile experience.
We've completely revamped the Reconcile feature. The new Reconcile feature calculates the beginning balance based on all uncleared transactions which is what Quicken Windows and Quicken 2007 does. This will result in a more accurate reconcile experience that makes sure your Quicken balance actually matches your online or statement balance. In the previous reconcile feature, your Quicken balance was not actually used in the reconcile process and could result in errors.
This may mean that the first time you use this new feature you'll discover discrepancies that have always existed but weren't obvious when using the old reconcile feature. To quickly fix this, click on the gear icon to Start Fresh or Add an Adjustment. NEW: Choose to reconcile against an online balance or paper statement. NEW: Display only uncleared transactions. NEW: Check or uncheck all transactions with one click. NEW: Added payment and deposit columns in the Reconcile register.
NEW: Added payment and deposit totals in the reconcile screen. IMPROVED: Clear column renamed to Clr so that the column can be narrowed. When this feature was introduced in Quicken for Mac 2016, it caused a lot of pain for customers because the old reconcile allowed transaction errors to be introduced in the file. We wrote a detailed explanation of how Reconcile works in a forum post called.

12-Month Budget Data Entry. NEW: You can now enter and create a 12-month budget.
In 2015, you will still only be able to see one month at a time but you can plan for an entire year. NEW: Now customize your budget with one-time-only, periodic and recurring monthly expenses.
We added a new feature and fixed a number of Portfolio View issues:. NEW: Portfolio Time Machine (As Of Date).
See the historical value of your portfolio and individual holdings at a particular point in time. Track your investment performance over the past days, weeks, or years. Gain deeper learning and insights for future investing.
IMPROVED: Greatly improved portfolio view performance. Most are seeing at least a 200% speed increase. IMPROVED: Changed investment portfolio so that the number of shares display up to 6 decimal places.
(This was a request from kelly1, smayer97, rgw2012, jacobs, billp, canuckguy, and m.c.crockett in Quicken Live Community). IMPROVED: Quicken will automatically add price history for buy and sell transactions if there isn't current quote data for a particular day.
This should result in improved charting. IMPROVED: Portfolio view can now expand and fill the entire width of the screen.
BUG FIX: Fixed an issue where the security name would overlap the disclosure triangle if the name was really long. BUG FIX: Fixed an issue in Portfolio View where the disclosure triangle would open multiple securities when in investment, brokerage, retirement or education views. BUG FIX: Improved an issue where the chart would show spikes or dips due to stock splits or purchases. BUG FIX: Fixed an issue where short sells and covered calls didn't appear in reports. (Thanks to Mr. Cribb for tracking this down and working with us to fix the issue.). BUG FIX: Fixed the day change value for mutual funds when using Update All (Thanks to jtarver for bringing this to our attention).
We continue to make improvements and stability fixes throughout Quicken:. NEW: Now, finally, you can convert your Quicken Windows files (.QDF files) to Quicken Mac without Windows! The Windows to Mac conversion and file import now happens seamlessly on your Mac. No need to have access to a Windows computer or create a transfer (.QXF) file. All you need is your Quicken Windows (.QDF) file. NEW: Now you can export Category Summary and Tax Schedule reports to a CSV file (compatible with Excel, Numbers and other spreadsheets). We've received a lot of requests for this one.
NEW: Added ability to create Quick Category and Tag reports by right clicking (CTRL+Click) on a transaction and selecting Report Category or Tag. IMPROVED: Dramatically reduced file size by eliminating unused data backups stored in the file. IMPROVED: Eliminated width restrictions in reports so they can now expand and take up the full width of the screen.
IMPROVED: Updated Category, Tag, and Action screens to be consistent with Payee and Securities. IMPROVED: Added an ability to easily fix a 324 dead account issue. Simply click Setup in Account Status window to fix your account.
FIXED Made a number of general stability improvements. Updates 9/27 - Released Version 2.9.1 - This fixed a bad crash that would affect users who were still running MacOS 10.9.
9/29 - Released Version 2.9.2:. FIXED: Fixed an issue that would cause categories on linked transfers to be lost. FIXED: Fixed an issue where deleted splits weren't getting propagated to the Quicken Cloud.
FIXED: Improved reliability of a fix for an MFA issue where customers received an MFA code but didn't have a screen to enter the code in. NEW: Created a special Create Quicken ID screen for macOS Lion (10.7) and Mountain Lion (10.8) customers. I am having HUGE problems with the reconcile function. It is not picking up some of the checks and debits in my register and is throwing account reconciliation WAY OFF. It has created an absolute MESS in my checking account:( I contacted online support and after over an hour and an unsuccessful screen share (it crashed!), they couldn't help me. I finally went back at it myself today and figured out the issue. Now I don't know how to fix it.
I am about ready to shit can this program and find something else!!! I have multiple accounts for our household members as well. Had just gotten them all operating smoothly. This update has significantly diminished my quality of life, and increased precious 'chair time' attempting to get books working again (physical pain to be at desk sitting, listening to hours of recorded hold chatter). Last year, I totally rebuilt the books with Quicken support, because of a similar issue. Not at all sure that it is worth it to rebuild books, delete all log-in, create again, or whatever changes necessary simply to keep basic account records downloaded onto one electronic platform.
May go back to pen and paper. It's that frustrating. Sorry to complain, but this has happened so many times, I needed someone associated with Quicken to realize they are creating Luddites.
Smayer97, you may be right. Now again there is no balance numbers showing in the balance column in my check account only. Also it wasn't showing any future scheduled transactions. All other accounts were fine. I clicked on the attachments column, then clicked on the date column and the balance showed up again. Not sure what happened for the balance to disappear again. If the balance disappears again I will click the date column first.
Now to figure why it gets out of date sequence. Thanks Quicken Marcus for responding to my first post. What is up with these orange pencils? I do not do any downloads, only manual entries. Problem solved! During the update process I had pointed Quicken to the old Quicken Essentials data and not to my current Quicken 2015 data. This was my mistake, but I also think better instructions would have made clear where the correct data file was located.
Then, I found my last good backup and used Quicken's command: 'File Restore from Backup'. Quicken took me through the conversion and ID process again. After it was over I was relieved to see all my numbers intact! To locate your current data file open Quicken and control-click on the Q icon at the top of the window. For the location of your backups use 'Help Show Backups in Finder' in Quicken.
Okay it works. I'm on a MAC and have Q 2015. THE KEY WAS TO GET up before 7am.
Hit the button to get in line at support. Quickie shower. The agent was there in about 10 minutes. Turned out the answer was in Quicken, to go to troubleshooting and deactivate downloads.Quit Quicken. Go to applicationsutilitieskeychain access and erase all quicken files in keychain, including Quicken ID Manager. Restart Quicken. You have to remember the passwords you had previously used at your bank/institution.
Set up downloads again. Everything updated. Now I can brush my teeth. Okay it works.

Everything updated. Trying to reconcile using statement balance method.
I have 5 transactions on my paper statement, that are clearly marked as cleared in Quicken, that do not show up in the to be reconciled screen. This is causing out of balance account. (I always reconcile each item on my statement) The 5 transactions are all manual entries for various Credit Card payments (4 different Companies), and are setup as transfers as they are paying into another account. I have similar transactions pointing to other accounts that I did not encounter this issue. I have tried to unclear and remark as cleared but that did not fix.
None of these transactions have a pencil as they were all marked as reviewed and cleared prior to upgrade. I believe I have had the same issue. I tried three times to reach someone on chat where the projected time was 26 minutes yet hours later, still no rep connected to me.
So I tried some things on my own and I found something that seemed to have worked. I don't recall if it was the same solution each time or my trial and error that paid off. I tried creating a new transaction, duplicating what was already there and I could then reconcile that one. I deleted the original after that. In another case I have to shift the dates forward or backward to get it in the right range.
I have also had some times where the 'quicken balance' is showing as of the day prior and I think this may be why I couldn't see the transactions that were there and cleared yet not showing up. Seems like bugs to me but Quicken probably won't agree. I hope one of those works for you. Since updating to 2.9.2 when I download transactions from my bank it's not downloading the latest transactions only the previous days.
An example is I download this morning 10/7 and I have transactions that cleared today but they don't download to quicken I only get anything from 10/6 and before. Also when I go to reconcile the date that shows the last time it was updated was yesterday 10/6 and not today. If I click continue the Quicken balance doesn't match what the online balance showed on the previous screen. If I download the transactions on a day that I don't have any new activity then everything lines up an I'm able to reconcile fine but it's rare that I have days where there's no new transactions on my bank statement.
Kevin, what is the Quicken connection method (Accounts Settings) you use to connect to your bank? If it is Direct Connect, then Quicken is login you into your bank in real-time to download transactions, so you should have the absolute latest from your bank. But if, as I suspect from your description, it is Quicken Connect, then a Quicken server once a day (usually at night) logs into your bank asa proxy for you and downloads your transactions, and when you open Quicken, you're downloading those transactions from he Quicken server. As a result, with Quicken Connect, your downloads include only what your bank had posted as of the last time the Quicken server connected to it (typically sometime overnight the previous night). That would be why you don't have today's transactions.
You can check to serif your bank supports Direct Connect, and switch to it if it is available. Just be aware that some banks charge their customers a monthly fee for Direct Connect access and some don't. Quicken has never supported multiple users on a single data file like you describe. (I'm not saying you didn't have it working that way, just that it's not supported.) Where is the data file that both computers are/were using. If it's in a cloud service, that's what's a real no-no with Quicken Mac.
Quicken really requires the data file to be local on each machine. If you are using the data from iCloud or Dropbox, you run the significant risk of corrupting your data file at some point.
If.is. okay to compress a copy of your data file and move it to the other computer via a cloud service, but this means taking a few extra steps to pass the file back and forth. Or if you were doing it via Quicken mobile, that's also not supported as a way to sync two different desktop systems. I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'did an update after I shut down,' so it's not clear to me how you were set up before.
But the only way that I know of that's safe to have two computers which share int he use of a Quicken file is to compress it and move it (via flash drive, file sharing, or cloud storage) from one machine to the other, manually keeping track of which computer has the most current file. I have had reconciliation errors/issues off and on since this release and now my American Express Credit card accounts will not synchronize. I can access via the web no problem. Tried entering the credentials back in on the odd chance there was some corruption. Spent nearly 1.5 hours with support via chat where the rep went from, I assure you we will resolve this today to it must be your bank's issue.
In the process, we backed up, started fresh, imported the accounts and tried to reconnect. Now other accounts won't sync with quicken's servers either. Say one bank has an issue and it on their end, ok. How about when 3, 4, 5 different banks all can't connect? Somehow it is all their fault and nothing to do with quicken!
I have been using some form of this product since the early 90's on PC and now Mac. I am looking for another alternative now, because I think I really have hit the final wall. This transition has not gone well at all.
Be careful to save a backup of your Quicken 2015 files before a download and install of the 2.9.2 update. All accounts worked fine after I installed 2.9.2, but the checking account. I could not reconcile the account and the data was way off. I spent two chat sessions trying rectify the issue, but the agents I worked with were clueless on what to do. I finally gave up on a quick fix solution to the issues with the checking account and trashed it.
I manually reinterred a year of checking account data to bring things back up to date. It is strange that the only account update affected was the one account that I don't download transactions from my bank.
